James Hosking, an award-winning photographer and filmmaker, developed an ongoing series focusing on performers from Aunt Charlie's, particularly Donna Personna, Olivia Hart, and Collette LeGrande. In this exhibition, Hosking documents performers' ritualistic transformations onstage, behind the scenes, and at home, offering a candid exploration of aging and labor in drag.

James Hosking is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker, who was recently selected as one of the Magenta Foundation's 2018 Flash Forward top emerging photographers.

Hosking’s work has appeared in The Washington Post, Mother Jones, Chicago magazine, The California Sunday Magazine, San Francisco magazine, Huffington Post, High Country News, Port, The Advocate, Longreads, Out, Afar, Dazed & Confused, SF Weekly, Feature Shoot, CityLab, Paper, Material Magazine, Slate, and many others.

Hosking developed an ongoing series focusing on performers at Aunt Charlie’s Lounge, a Tenderloin bar that hosts a long-running weekly drag show. Additionally, Hosking made a short film about three of the performers entitled Beautiful By Night. The film was chosen as a staff pick on Vimeo and screened at the Tenderloin Museum, Boston LGBT Film Festival, Frameline39: San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival, Atlanta DocuFest, and other festivals. It was the recipient of a Platinum Award at the Spotlight Documentary Awards.

Recently, Hosking finished a documentary about San Francisco's Night Ministry entitled Even In Darkness. The film follows their Director, Lyle Beckman, as he provides face-to-face counseling and intervention to people in crisis on the streets. The project is a beneficiary of the San Francisco Neighborhood Arts Collaborative grant in conjunction with the Tenderloin Museum. The film premiered at the 20th United Nations Association Film Festival.
