“For the dark and avant-garde side, check out ‘25-Cent Preview,’ a Tenderloin-set story about the reality and rawness of power, sex and survival on the street.” - SF Chronicle
Join us March 10 for a screening of “25-Cent Preview” directed by Cyrus Amini, starring Merlin Gaspers and local Tenderloin resident Dorian Brockington. The film premiered in 2007 and did the film festival circuit, winning: the Grand Jury Award, Best U.S. Feature, and Best Male Actors awards at the 2007 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival; a Grand Jury Award and Best U.S. Feature at the Tampa International Gay Lesbian Film Festival, and was an Official Selection at Frameline 31.
"Scrappy no-budgeter ‘25 Cent Preview’ offers a convincing slice of life on San Francisco's Lower Polk Street, where drug and (mostly gay) sex trades have a long history. Focusing on a bisexual pretty-white-boy hustler and his older black sometime partner during a couple of consequentially chaotic days, this verite-style drama has the ring of lived-in truth.” - Variety Magazine
From the director, Cyrus Amini:
“ [The film] ’25 Cent Preview’ was shot in concentrated periods during the late summer and fall of 2005 ... The "TL" is historically known for its seedy sex industry and widespread drug abuse. Having few other comparable places inspires an urge to document and capture this intense environment many transients and the underworld consider home. Shooting on Mini DV and the use of guerrilla film techniques, combined with the utilization of primarily local non actors allows the essence of the TL to emerge and the district itself becomes one of the main characters in the film.”
The film’s director Cyrus Amini and star Dorian Brockington will be in attendance and participate in a Q&A following the film.
