Join the Tenderloin Museum (TLM) and San Francisco Neon for the 2020 Neon Speaks Festival & Symposium: morning and evening sessions with online talks, tours, book fairs, and neon demonstrations which celebrate the connective power of neon signs and art. Bringing together historians, authors, designers, and neon artists across the world, Neon Speaks aims to engage a global community of neon makers and advocates—building an international neon community and championing neon preservation efforts.
Now in its third year, Neon Speaks will be held virtually over two weekends: September 25-26-27 and Oct 3-4, 2020.
Including participants from Cuba, Poland, Portugal, Australia, and throughout the U.S., viewers will have the unique opportunity to learn about anything from neon signs that brightened Cold-War Warsaw to the vibrant neon letterforms preserved in Lisbon. Produced in partnership with San Francisco History Days and TLM, viewers will now have the chance to experience the virtual versions of the museum's previously sold-out walking tours of the Tenderloin Neon + Matchbook tour and the Tenderloin Neon + Ghost Sign tours.
Registration for individual events and book fair are free and by donation. All-Event Virtual Passports are available on a sliding scale with a suggested donation of $10 per day for the five-day festival. The All-Event Virtual Passport grants access to two weekends of virtual talks, tours, demos, and screenings that explore neon’s past, present, and future.
Passport holders also have special access to recordings of all Neon Speaks events to watch at their own pace. Additionally, a print-at-home schedule for Neon Speaks 2020 is now available so you can plan your weekend viewing of live events or watching recorded events, depending on your time zone.
