EXIT THEATER  FOG CITY MAGIC FEST

Last February, EXIT Theatre, the original epicenter of indie theatre in San Francisco, presented a brand new experiment, The Fog City Magic Fest, a week of shows from some of the Bay Area’s best and most acclaimed magicians, proudly produced by EXIT Theatre, and curated by co-founders, national magicians, and Bay Area treasures, Jay Alexander and Christian Cagigal. The experiment was a huge success with attendance topping that of any other first year festival EXIT has produced. In 2017, EXIT Theatre will present The 2nd Annual FOG CITY MAGIC FEST. From January 22nd to the 28th. The 2nd Annual FOG CITY MAGIC FEST will present 9 shows and events, including performances by international entertainer The Lynx Show; featured performer at New York’s “Monday Night Magic” Dennis Kyriakos; the return of JADE; a special family magic event in conjunction with our neighbors the Tenderloin Museum, and MAGIC SLAM.

ABOUT THE EXIT THEATRE:

The mission of EXIT Theatre is to develop theater artists by providing opportunities to perform. Our focus is on providing open access opportunities for all theater artists so they can develop and experiment. We do this by commissioning, developing and producing new plays; providing production support and low cost theater rentals to small companies; hosting theaters and playwrights-in-residence; and by producing the San Francisco Fringe Festival, the largest grassroots theater festival in the Bay Area.

The EXIT operates five storefront theaters, with a total of 300 seats, in the Tenderloin district of downtown San Francisco. Theaters range in size from 25 seats to 80 seats and annually host 100 independent theater companies.

EXIT Theatre was founded on Eddy Street in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood in 1983 when a group of method actors and retired vaudevillians came together under artistic director Christina Augello to perform a new play in the lobby of a residential hotel and passed the hat for funding. The local alternative press has named EXIT Theatre “Best Local Venue”, “Best (3,000 miles) Off-Broadway Theater”, “Best Off-Beat Theatre” and the artistic director has been named “Best Producer” and “Working Woman of the Year.”

ABOUT THE DANTE:

Danté was born to be a magician. As a child, his father built props for professional touring magicians out of the workshop in their New York home. At ten, Danté began studying his art at the world famous "Tannen's Magic Camp". By twelve, he could be seen handing out his business card and performing at local community events. His passion to perform led him to study theater at New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. After moving to California, Danté's work expanded into television, commercials and print. He was cast to play himself on the Emmy nominated television show "Hip Hop Harry" that aired on the Discovery Kids network. In 2013, Danté was awarded San Francisco's Performer of the Year by RAW, an international independent art organization. Now living in the Bay Area, Danté continues to enjoy bringing magic to events nationwide.

This event is sponsored in part by a grant from Grants for the Arts/General Fund Portion of the San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund.
